Something we learned during the FL GA SC hurricane - horse farms around Tryon that already have good barns with stalls for lots of horses are hard to find! Within a 10 mile radius of TIEC, most farms have only 4-6 stalls. Biggest has 35, two others can hold 15 or 20. Very low number of farms to choose from - prices increasing and it's hard to find places with all the right ingredients.

Located about 45 minutes south of Asheville in the foothills of the southern Appalachians, Derbyshire is the perfect spot for an equestrian home. This lovely historic home in downtown Tryon was built in 1925 by Francis P. Bacon, a former Mayor of Tryon and a North Carolina State Senator. The home is uniquely sited in a large private compound which is very unusual in downtown.

Living in a small town in the mountains is super beautiful and really fun, but there are a few things we’ve had to learn such as how to outsmart the average bear. Even in town (we have many acres of lush woods downtown) we have giant 6’ tall bear neighbors who walk around at night looking for trash to snack on.

Horse properties create two unique challenges: first, they tend to be more expensive than your typical residential home because they have more land and structures like a barns and arenas on the property. Second, horse properties require a buyer with a specific interests and needs.
