Outsmarting the Average Bear

Living in a small town in the mountains is super beautiful and really fun, but there are a few things we’ve had to learn such as how to outsmart the average bear. Even in town (we have many acres of lush woods downtown) we have giant 6’ tall bear neighbors who walk around at night looking for trash to snack on. Poor Bears.

I really don’t want to spend $350 on a bear proof trash can. Putting straps on regular cans seems to keep them from opening the can. They still toss the can around, but that’s ok. This is a pretty good video on how to attach straps on normal plastic cans. This beautiful mother and baby bear came up to our back porch to see what they could find. But they didn’t get into the trash :)
